P’que’s Olivares brods switch places for ’25 polls

PARANAQUE First District Rep. Edwin Olivarez has announced his plan to switch places with his younger brother, incumbent Mayor Eric Olivarez, in this coming midterm elections.

Mayor Olivarez will run as first district representative under the local party Bagong Parañaque banner and Lakas-CMD, while his older brother will for the city’s mayorship.

The incumbent congressman served as city mayor from 2013 to 2022, and chairman of the Metro   Manila Council, the policy-making body of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority. He is presently the chairman of the House Committee on Government Enterprises and Privatization.

Mayor Eric entered politics in 2007 when he ran for a seat in the City Council and served for six years. He later sought for the city’s first district congressional seat in 2013 and won, succeeding Edwin. He served as a congressman for three terms until 2022 when he ran and won as mayor.

Their father, Dr. Pablo Olivarez, also served as city mayor from 1982 to 1985. Their   younger sister Eva Olivarez, is the incumbent chairman of Barangay San Dionisio, one of the biggest among the city’s 18 barangays. 

They will file their certificates of candidacy on Oct. 7.
