THE Army Artillery Maintainace and Service Battalion conducted over the weekend a functional test firing at Fort Magsaysay in Palayan City, Nueva Ejica.
The Army said assets and equipment involved were one 105mm Howitzer of 5FAB, AAR and two 105mm Howitzers of 8FAB, AAR.
These functional tests are essential to verify the reliability, accuracy, and safety of the artillery pieces, which are used in various combat scenarios, the Army said.
The troops supervised by Capt. Christian delos Santos meticulously inspected each howitzer, ensuring that all components, including the barrel, breech mechanism, firing controls, and recoil systems, were functioning correctly.
The artillery mechanics also served as gun crews during the functional test firings following standard procedures for laying the gun, calculating firing data, and execution of the live firing.
This hands-on experience offered valuable insights into the operational capabilities of the howitzers, allowing for the identification of any potential issues and thorough assessment.
Through the execution of these functional test firings, the Maintenance and Service Battalion reaffirms its commitment to maintaining a high level of operational readiness, ensuring both the safety of artillery personnel and the optimal performance of equipment.
