President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said it is too early to discuss a replacement for Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos, emphasizing that no decision has been made yet.
“That’s premature. Wait, wait. Let’s allow Secretary Abalos to finish before we… I don’t want him to feel that we are already pushing him out,” Mr. Marcos said when asked about a potential successor.
He praised Abalos’ performance as Interior Secretary, noting that he has done “such a good job” in his role.
“When he will file, we will also announce his replacement,” Marcos said without providing further details.
When asked about potential candidates for the position, he revealed there are currently only two under consideration.
Abalos is set to run in the upcoming 2025 midterm elections under the Marcos administration’s senatorial slate.
