Officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) recently held a meeting to discuss the modernization project for Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The meeting focused on improving taxiways, weather and lighting systems, and air traffic control facilities to enhance operations and increase aircraft movements at NAIA. CAAP officials including Director General Captain Manuel Antonio Tamayo, Deputy Director General for Operations Captain Edgardo Diaz, Deputy Director General for Administration Atty. Danjun Lucas, and ATS Chief Marlene Singson were in attendance.
Additionally, officials from both organizations explored potential collaboration toward human capital development to address the country’s growing demand for air navigation professionals and emergency service staff.
CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said the private consortium supported the agency’s extensive training programs for Air Traffic Service (ATS) and Air Navigation Service (ANS) personnel to ensure a steady supply of qualified, skilled, competent controllers and air navigation personnel.
NNIC also pledged to contribute to refurbishing the Civil Aviation Training Center (CATC) in Merville, Pasay City, including upgrading the training facilities and purchasing new tower simulators.
Furthermore, CAAP and NNIC recognized the need to upgrade Aerodrome Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) training facilities and firefighting equipment to enhance airport safety and emergency preparedness.
The event concluded with NNIC president and chief executive officer Ramon Ang affirming their support of CAAP for hosting the upcoming 59th Conference of Directors General of Civil Aviation Asia and Pacific Regions (DGCA 59), which will be held in Cebu this October, by becoming one of the event’s platinum sponsors.
