The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Friday additional casualties, bringing the latest death toll to 24, due to bad weather brought by three typhoons that enhanced the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ this week.

In its latest situation report, the NDRRMC noted that the most recent fatality occurred in Western Visayas. The council is currently validating all reported deaths in the wake of the weather disturbances, which affected various regions since last week.

As of September 20, damage to public infrastructure also reached P22.5 million. At least 36 roads and five bridges remain impassable across 11 regions, according to the disaster agency. A total of 12 areas in eight regions also experience unstable electricity services because of the bad weather.

The number of damaged homes sharply increased from 1,243 to 2,083, with costs estimated at P3.69 million. A total of 1.3 million individuals are reeling from the combined effects of the recent typhoons.
