Sanctions await those involved in Bataan oil spill—Marcos

President Ferdinand Marcos vowed Thursday that government officials involved in the recent oil spill incident off Bataan will be held accountable as investigations continue into the sinking of three motor tankers.

Speaking during an aid distribution event for fisherfolk in Navotas City, Mr. Marcos assured those responsible will face the consequences.

“There is an ongoing investigation to answer key questions: Were these ships involved in oil smuggling? Why were two of the ships operating without proper registration?” President Marcos said.

“All of this is being investigated to ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he added.

The motor tankers Terranova, Jason Bradley, and Mirola sank near the coast of Bataan in July. Authorities are investigating potential illegal activities, such as oil smuggling, related to the ships.

Additionally, it was found that two of the tankers, Jason Bradley and Mirola, did not have the required authorization to operate in Philippine waters.
