Go appeals to PhilHealth to junk ‘single period of confinement policy’

The chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health renewed his call for PhilHealth to immediately scrap its “single period of confinement policy.”

The policy dictates that admissions and readmissions due to the same illness or procedure within a specific period of 90 days are only compensated once by PhilHealth.

Committee head Senator Bong Go underscored the urgent need for PhilHealth to rectify this policy and improve its services to better serve the Filipino people.

Go tagged the policy as “unfair and illogical” amid the state insurer’s current financial standing of accummulating P90 billion in excess funds and another P500 billion in reserved funds.

His call for Philhealth to remove this policy was supported by other senators.

Senator JV Ejercito said the policy was contrary to the Universal Health Care (UHC), which he authored and sponsored.

Senator Robin Padilla also expressed strong support for Go’s call, highlighting the fight for the health of every Filipino is enshrined in the Constitution.

Go also reiterated its call for PhilHealth to fulfill its promises by maximizing resources to provide Filipinos with the healthcare coverage they deserve.
