Marcos thanks European Union envoy for stronger PH-EU ties

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Thursday thanked European Union Ambassador Luc Veron for deepening ties between the Philippines and the EU.

“You’ve been affixed here in all the work that we’ve been doing for the last three years, since I’ve been President. And I think that in that time we really have seen a much deeper interconnection between the Philippines and the EU,” President Marcos said during the EU official’s farewell call in Malacañang.

“I don’t think we’ve had this close relationship with the EU as we have now and I’m happy that that’s the case,” he added.

Veron, who began his post in December 2020, was honored with the Order of Sikatuna for his role in enhancing bilateral relations, promoting the rule of law, and supporting development initiatives in Mindanao.

The EU has been a key development partner, contributing humanitarian aid and backing the Philippines in the West Philippine Sea dispute.

In 2023, the EU’s approved investments in the country reached $13.41 billion.
