Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner, Jr. on Thursday issued a directive to all military officers and enlisted personnel to attach the Philippine flag to AFP-wide battle dress uniforms (BDU). BDUs are the standard camouflage combat uniforms that military officers and personnel wear on the battlefield.

According to AFP Public Affairs Office Chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad,  the initiative aims to reinforce patriotism and solidarity as a visible reminder of AFP’s commitment to upholding the Philippine sovereign rights and territorial integrity.

“This aligns with the broader efforts of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to foster national pride and unity among Filipinos,” Trinidad said in a statement.

“The announcement reflects the AFP’s effort to provide vivid representation in carrying out its mission with honor and pride,” he added.

AFP Spokesperson Col. Margareth Padilla explained that all AFP officers and enlisted personnel are given two months to comply with Brawner’s directive.

If the personnel failed to do so, Padilla said the appropriate sanctions are up to the ground commander to implement.
