Two Filipino youth leaders join 90 others from 45 countries worldwide in celebrating the British Council’s 90th anniversary through “90 Youth Voices for the Future.”

This is an event that aims to gather young representatives to spend a week in the United Kingdom and study the youth there.

Adamson Law graduates Jose Mari Callueng and Myron Dominick Manalastas were selected by the organization and will travel across London and Edinburgh in Scotland.

Callueng is a member of human rights group KARAPATAN, where he led campaigns in promoting civil and political rights and provided paralegal training. Manalastas, on the other hand, actively works in the legal profession through his work for the poor and the marginalized.

The group will join other participants selected by the British Council to study inclusive communities and spaces, using digital technology and green spaces in cities.

They will also hear insights from policymakers and youth organizations in the UK as they shape their experiences during the course of the program.

Lotus Postrado, British Council in the Philippines Director, says they are ‘thrilled’ to include representatives from the Philippines who exhibit leadership qualities.

“The Philippines has many talented young leaders, and we are grateful to support Jose Mari and Myron as they take this opportunity to learn with global leaders and share their stories on a wider platform,” Postrado said in a press release.

Meanwhile, British Council Deputy Chief Executive Kate Ewart-Biggs OBE said 90 Youth Voices would serve as a platform for stories of young people to be heard.

“It is important that we learn from these young activists, journalists, creator, and entrepreneurs, break down barriers and come together to act positively on the big global challenges that affect all of our lives,” she said. – With Rolando Ng III
