PAGASA: Weak La Niña transition between August to October

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the transition of a weak La Niña is expected between August and October.

The state weather bureau said the Philippines is currently in a neutral phase after the El Niño phenomenon ended early.

Climatology and Agrometeorology Division Chief Thelma Cinca said “La Niña is a condition in the Central Pacific that we look at as indices of sea surface temperature.”

Rainfall is forecast toward the end of the year as La Niña’s developing stage will be from June to August.

PAGASA cited a shorter duration between El Niño and La Niña against last year’s when the neutral phase took months before shifting to La Niña.

The bureau added that climate change could be a factor.
