Albay seeks Comelec nod to make poll bets undergo mandatory drug testing

Albay Rep. Fernando Cabredo has urged the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to require all candidates in the upcoming 2025 midterm polls to undergo mandatory drug testing

Cabredo, representing Albay’s 3rd District, recently filed House Resolution No. 1772, stating the relevance of the measure to ensure the integrity and credibility of the electoral process.

His proposal expressed concerns about how drug use and abuse could impair the judgment and behavior of potential public officials.

Cabredo believes that mandatory drug testing could help identify individuals who might be unfit for public office due to drug-related issues.

“It is up to the COMELEC to determine the procedures and guidelines for mandatory drug testing for all candidates. But drug testing should be made by an accredited drug testing facility” he said.

The proposal comes as part of broader efforts to enhance transparency and accountability of the election process.

Cabredo’s resolution calls on COMELEC to take decisive action and set clear guidelines for the implementation of the proposed policy.
