The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) has announced that it is considering Makati City Mayor Abigail Binay as one of its senatorial candidates in the 2025 midterm elections.

Binay took her oath as a member of the party on Tuesday.

Her husband, Makati Rep. Luis Campos, administered the oath of membership in a simple ceremony at the NPC Clubhouse in Quezon City, which was attended by party president Rep. John Michael Duavit, NPC secretary general Mark Llandro Mendoza, and Rep. Jaime Cojuangco.

The NPC previously signed a coalition agreement with the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas led by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who witnessed the signing ceremonies.

In a statement, Mayor Binay thanked the NPC for considering her inclusion in its senatorial ticket.

She expressed gratitude to the NPC leadership and her partymates for their trust and confidence.

Binay also emphasized that, for the time being, she will “continue to fulfill her commitment to the people of Makati by improving services and promoting the city as a major tourist and investor destination.”

She also called for a renewal of purpose among political parties, highlighting the importance of working together to address the country’s issues and improve the lives of Filipinos.

Binay was listed as one of the most preferred senatorial candidates in next year’s polls based on the Pulse Asia Research Inc. survey conducted two months ago.

Other top picks included incumbent Senators Ronald Dela Rosa, Ramon Revilla Jr. and Imee Marcos; ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, former senator Vicente Sotto III, former president Rodrigo Duterte, former Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, and broadcaster Ben Tulfo.

The survey, which was released last month, was conducted from March 6 to 10.
