Sen. Binay undecided on mayoralty plans

SENATOR Nancy Binay wants to continue  the “Binay legacy of taking care of Makati residents,” but right now, her decision to run for Makati mayor is just “30 percent.”

The legacy, she said, was started by her father, Jejomar Binay, who served as Makati Mayor for 39 years.

Her mother, Dra. Elenita Binay, and brother Junjun. were also Makati Mayor for one term or three years. Her younger sister, Abby Binay, is the city’s incumbent mayor.

According to Binay, she is seriously contemplating to run for Makati mayor in next year’s elections.

She also braces for another rift with sister Abby who will field her husband, Rep. Luis Campos, in next year’s mayoralty  race.

She noted that Campos had already given his word to run for mayor so she   is exerting effort to ward off a family feud.

However, she’s not dismissing the possibility of a divided Binay family comes election time.

She pointed out the big probability is “not Binay against Binay” because he (Campos) has a different surname.

Still, she remains hopeful the  political bickering within the family will be resolved.

Right now, she is still waiting for a sign, which she did not divulge, before finally deciding on a local run. She will make the announcement before October.

As for Abby, the senator said she has two options- to run for mayor in Taguig City or join the senatorial race.
