LTO touts ‘Aksyon on the Spot’ hotline to address complaints vs erring motorists

Citizens eager to hold motorists accountable for using sirens, blinkers, and other unauthorized devices are highly encouraged to address their complaints through the recently launched ‘Aksyon on the Spot’ hotline of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) via mobile no. 0929-292-0865.

LTO Chief Vigor Mendoza II said the system was installed in compliance with the directive of President Marcos to reinstate the “anti-wang-wang” policy under his administration.

“We have been planning for a long time for your LTO to have a reliable hotline in response to the directive of our Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to further intensify road safety measures due to the ongoing road rage and our campaign against in colorum vehicles,” Mendoza said.

“But we made it even easier when our President issued an order against the illegal use of sirens and blinkers, so that our countrymen could have a reliable platform for their complaints against those who disobey the order of our President,” he added.

President Marcos issued Administrative Order 18 stating that all government officials and personnel are prohibited from using sirens, blinkers, and other flashy devices that produce attention-seeking, exceptionally loud or startling sounds.

“Unauthorized and improper use of signaling or flashing devices by government officials and employees shall be dealt with in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations,” the order read.

The so-called ‘wang-wang’ tools are allowed only for official use by vehicles associated with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police, as well as fire trucks, hospital ambulances and other emergency vehicles.

Mendoza said the ‘Aksyon on the Spot’ hotline can also be used by the public to report online scammers, who impersonate LTO officers and send fake traffic violations.

Road users are encouraged to send text messages to 09292920865 if they encounter motorists displaying abusive behavior on the road.

Stickers bearing the hotline’s number would also be distributed to motorists, especially those who will be renewing the license registration of their vehicles.
