Events for the “Palarong Bicol,” which opened Sunday in Legazpi City, Albay are pushing through as scheduled despite the suspension of classes in the province due to the extreme heat and the nationwide transport strike, the Department of Education (DepEd) regional office has announced.

Games for the “Palarong Bicol ” in Albay are currently being hosted in the cities of Ligao, Tabaco and Legazpi.

The provincial government of Albay also announced the suspension of onsite classes from Monday to Tuesday (April 29 to 30) consistent with the recent advisory of DepEd.

Governor Grex Lagman ordered all academic institutions in the province to implement distance learning modalities in light of the ongoing danger level heat index and the mass transport strike that would last until May 1, Labor Day.

Lagman explained that the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has consulted health and safety experts before issuing his order.

The governor stressed that educational institutions, which have the capability for modified learning arrangements are encouraged to adopt such measures to ensure the continuity of education while prioritizing health and safety of the students and school staff.

The public is strongly advised to remain indoors as much as possible, stay hydrated and observe heat index warnings.

Lagman also urged his constituents to stay informed and updated with respect to developments in the transport strike as well as weather advisories through official channels only.
