A party-list congresswoman on Friday expressed sadness over the fate of three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who reportedly perished in the floods in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Ikinalulungkot natin ang pagkasawi ng ating tatlong OFWs dahil sa malakas na pagbaha sa United Arab Emirates. Nakikiramay tayo sa kanilang naiwang pamilyang. (We are saddened by the death of our three OFWs because of the strong floods in the United Arab Emirates. We condole with the families they left behind),” said Rep. Marissa Magsino of OFW party-list group, a member of the minority bloc in the House of Representatives.
“We also pray for our other countrymen who went through this calamity,” she said.
Citing a report from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Magsino noted that two female OFWs died after they ran out of air in the vehicles that was trapped by the floodwaters.
The third OFW died after his vehicle fell in a sinkhole.
“We call on our countrymen in the United Arab Emirates to remain careful and ask for assistance from the authorities if you are having difficulties,”Magsino said in Pilipino.
