THE Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Monday gave assurance that maintenance activities to enhance the electrical systems of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport – Terminal 3 (NAIA-3) have been carefully planned to ensure uninterrupted operations, especially during peak hours.

The electrical upgrade works were scheduled from April 2 to May 28 this year and will not affect the processing of passengers and baggage, nor will they have any disruptive effect on flight operations, the MIAA said.

MIAA general manager Eric Ines clarified that major parts of the terminal building will have light and air conditioning during the day.

The upgrades involve replacing parts or components of the medium circuit breakers across eight different electrical substations of the terminal.

The schedule was timed after the last flight and outside of peak hours of operations.

The job would only take 15 minutes to three hours at most, and would not extend into the departure or arrival times of the first flight of the day. Maintenance work will be done between 12:01 a.m. and 3 a.m.

The south side of the Terminal will be affected, with reduced lighting and air conditioning in hallways and lobbies from the first to the fourth level, staircases, certain offices located on the second and third levels, ground surface parking, and multi-level parking.

Elevators and escalators located on this side of the terminal might become inoperative during maintenance hours.

The Terminal 3 generators will be on standby for any contingency during the conduct of maintenance works, according to Ines.
