Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos, Jr. on Monday is confident that this year’s observance of Holy Week will be generally peaceful and safe.

Abalos said some 52,000 cops and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) personnel were deployed nationwide to ensure public safety, especially those travelling from Metro Manila to their respective provinces.

“So far, there are no threats. Don’t worry,” Abalos told reporters, citing assurances he received from Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Benjamin Acorda and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez, Jr.

Abalos issued the statement after an interagency inspection at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) for the Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Holy Week 2024.

The joint inspection was conducted to ensure seamless operations at the PITX and implement necessary measures in preparation for the influx of passengers at the terminal for the long Holy Week holidays.

Some 74 police officers will man the PITX round-the- clock. A substantial number of CCTV cameras are also installed in the terminal for added security. Two fire trucks are stationed at the area with BFP personnel on duty.

Abalos said the DILG is one with other national government agencies in ensuring a peaceful Holy Week as ordered by President Marcos.

“The DILG is cooperating with the DOTr, DICT (Department of Information and Communications Technology) and other agencies because this is what our dear President has ordered, especially if our citizens are traveling this Holy Week,” he said.

Meanwhile, PNP Chief Acorda said that despite the absence of any threats, there are adequate police officers deployed in various parts of the country, especially in major terminals for land, sea, and air transportation to prevent any untoward incidents.
