NAIA worker praised for returning missing mobile phone

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Undersecretary Eduardo Punay commended a utility worker at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) for returning his mobile phone after it went missing.

“Shout out to Mr. Marcelino Ogoc Jr., airport utility staff at NAIA, for returning the phone I dropped in the washroom! Took me about 30 minutes to realize it was missing,” said Punay on his official social media account.

“Mabuhay ang mga matapat na kawani ng ating pambansang paliparan! More reason to #LoveThePhilippines!,” he added.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) was happy to receive the good news about what the airport worker did.

“Mr. Ogoc’s display of honesty not only sets a good example to his colleagues but also proves that our efforts to promote integrity and professionalism among airport workers are gaining ground from all levels of service,” it stated.

Just recently, MIAA also commended a security guard for honesty after he reported and turned over to the airport management a suitcase containing cash and jewelry worth P1.9 million.

NAIA has been receiving criticism from netizens after a viral video showed rats and bedbugs in the airport premises. Business groups have also called on the airport management to address the pest problem, as it could impact the country’s tourism industry.

Reports of theft have also surfaced recently, months after the controversial dollar-swallowing case. A British national and his Filipina wife lost a valuable sling bag after undergoing X-ray machine scanning at the departure area.

MIAA General Manager Eric Ines earlier initiated a meeting with the housekeeping and pest control service contractors and gave them an ultimatum to perform according to the terms of their contracts or face being banned from future bidding.

Terminal administrators, service contractors, and health experts from the Bureau of Quarantine and MIAA Medical convened with GM Ines to review the current state of sanitation services across all NAIA terminals.
