THERE will be no let-up in the Land Transportation Office’s (LTO) campaign against unregistered vehicles and colorums, the agency reiterated on Friday.

Meanwhile, the LTO opened a new extension office in San Mateo, Rizal, replacing the one damaged by the flood in 2020.

LTO chief Vigor Mendoza II said the crackdown will continue, adding that vehicle registration was “one of the ways to determine the roadworthiness of the vehicles aimed to ensure the safety of all road users.”

A total of 1,653 motor vehicles were impounded across the country last month alone.

The campaign against delinquent motor vehicles complements the intensified drive against colorum vehicles.

Based on reports from the regional offices, the LTO chief said 243 motor vehicles were apprehended for picking up passengers without the necessary permits from the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board.

“Let this serve as a stern warning to both the delinquent motor vehicle owners that we will continue with this operation because this involves road safety and your obligation that comes with motor vehicle ownership,” he said.

Mendoza also said the opening of the LTO extension office was part of a commitment by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista under the Bagong Pilipinas to bring government services closer to the people.

“We continuously strive to make all the LTO transactions fast and
convenient to our clients. This is the reason why we pursued the
construction of this extension office for the benefit of the people of
San Mateo, Rizal,” he said.

“I congratulate the men and women of the LTO-Calabarzon, headed
by their hardworking regional director Cupido Gerry Asuncion, for the completion of this project,” he added.

According to Asuncion, the extension office was established through
Office Order No. 2019- 287 and was originally located at Kambal Road, Barangay Gitnang Bayan, San Mateo, Rizal.
