President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Tuesday shared that Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by the bankruptcies of Saudi Arabian construction companies in 2015 and 2016 would receive their long-awaited compensation.

“Nais ko lang balitaan ang ating mga OFW na galing sa Saudi na patuloy na ang pagbayad ng insurance ng Saudi Arabia sa mga empleyado ng mga kumpanyang nabangkarote na nag-file ng claim sa insurance,” President Marcos disclosed in a video message.

(I just want to inform our OFWs from Saudi that Saudi Arabia continues to pay the insurance for employees of bankrupt companies who have filed claims with the insurance.)

“Naka-process na ang Overseas Filipino Bank at Land Bank ng 1,104 Alinma Bank Indemnity Cheque. Alinma Bank ‘yung ginagamit sa Saudi Arabia,” the President added.

He added that 843 checks, totaling nearly P700 million, have been cleared and credited in peso equivalent.

A sum of P868,740,544 in indemnity checks has been cleared by Alinma Bank through the Landbank of the Philippines and transmitted to the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFB).

Of these checks, 1,014 have been cleared and credited, out of which 843 have been paid, Mr. Marcos said.

President Marcos noted that the payouts were personally assured to him by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin during their meeting on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit in Bangkok, Thailand, in November 2022.
