Lawmakers take key Congress posts

The Senate and House of Representatives on Monday night elected several legislators as chairpersons of various committees.

The lower chamber elected the following House members upon the motion of Majority Leader Jose Manuel Dalipe: Manila Rep. Irwin Tieng– Banks And Financial Intermediaries; Cagayan de Oro Rep. Rufus Rodriguez– Constitutional Amendments; Mandaue Rep. Emmarie Ouano-Dizon- Ecology; Bukidnon Rep. Jonathan Keith Flores– Government Reorganization; Kalinga Rep. Allen Jesse Mangaoang– Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples; Lanao del Sur Rep. Yasser Alonto Balindong– Mindanao Affairs; Ilocos Norte Rep. Angelo Marcos Barba– North Luzon Growth Quadrangle; Manila Rep. Edward Vera Perez Maceda– Revision of Laws; Aklan Rep. Carlito Marquez– Science and Technology; Mt. Province Rep. Maximo Dalog– Suffrage And Electoral Reforms; Romblon Rep. Eleandro Jesus Madrona– Tourism; Bataan Rep. Geraldine Roman– Women and Gender Equality; Isabela Rep. Faustino Michael Carlos Dy III– Youth And Sports Development; Davao Occidental Rep. Claude Bautista– Flagship Programs and Projects.

Also elected were: KUSUG TAUSUG Rep. Shernee Tan-Tambut– Peace, Reconciliation and Unity; Apayao Rep. Eleanor Bulut-Begtang– Reforestation; Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Rodolfo Ordanes– Senior Citizens; and Patrol party-list Rep. Jorge Bustos– Strategic Intelligence

In the Senate, Majority Leader Joel Villanueva announced the election of the following senators and their respective committees. 

They are the following:

Sen. Mark Villar, Banks, Financial Institutions and Currencies; Sen. Bong Revilla, Civil Service, Government Reorganization and Professional Regulation; Sen. Imee Marcos, Cooperatives and Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation; Sen. Grace Poe, Cultural Communities and Economic Affairs; Sen. Cynthia Villar, Environment and Natural Resources, and Climate Change; Sen. Robin Padilla, Public Information and Mass Media; Sen. Bong Go, Sports; Sen. Nancy Binay, Tourism; Sen. JV Ejercito, Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement; and Sen. Sonny Angara,Youth.
The other Senate committees which have no chair yet are Basic Education, Science and Technology, Ethics and Privileges,  Justice and Human Rights and Labor, Employment and Human Resources Development.

Meanwhile, Villanueva cited the need for the appointment of the Presidential Legislative Liason Office (PLLO).

“It’s not het official. in yesterday’s meeting, we already talked about it. I also heard that he is already appointed,” said Villanueva, referring to former Rep. Mark Leandro Mendoza.

He also disclosed that Senate President Migz Zubiri asked every senator to submit priority measures.

“That can be tackled in the LEDAC,” said Villanueva, adding that the strong suggestion of SP is for all members of the Senate is to join the LEDAC.

“It is a good idea. That will be conveyed by our SP to Malacanang that in the next LEDAC, every senator will be given the chance to be invited.
