LAKAS-Christian Muslim Democrats (CMD) vice presidential candidate Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio on Tuesday urged Filipino women to become entrepreneurs by going into micro-businesses to help their communities and the economy in general.

Duterte made the appeal during a rally at the Guiguinto Municipal Arena in Bulacan.

Local officials led by Vice Gov. Whilhelmino Sy-Alvarado, who is running for governor, and Guiguinto Mayor Ambrocio Cruz, who is running for Congress, organized the event in support of the UniTeam Alliance.

Duterte-Carpio also cited the heroism of Trinidad Tecson, one of the heroes of the Philippine-American war whom Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo called “Mother of Biak na Bato.”

“UniTeam’s celebration of International Women’s Day here in Bulacan is significant because one of the Filipinas who has helped a lot in our independence is from the province of Bulacan, Trinidad Tecson,” she said.

In urging women to go into business, Duterte-Carpio cited Davao City’s business development project “Magnegosio Ta Dai” under her leadership.

“I always tell the women in Davao City that they play an important role in our communities, not only as women leaders, but also as entrepreneurs. In fact, we have a very successful project there, called ‘Magnegosyo Ta Dai.’ We are encouraging them to get involved in micro-enterprises, which help a lot in bringing progress to women in every community,” she said.

As this developed, Duterte-Carpio and her presidential candidate, Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. vowed to support and expedite the country’s adoption of nuclear power if they are elected into office in the coming May 9 national elections.

The presidential tandem made the statement after President Rodrigo Duterte signed Executive Order (EO) No. 164, which details the country’s policy on nuclear energy in consonance with the country’s economic, political, social, and environmental goals.

The tandem believes that incorporating nuclear power in the Philippines’ energy mix would lower electricity rates and help secure a steady power source.

“The President’s executive order is a good springboard for the next administration to pursue its nuclear energy objectives. Our vision for the country is to have at least one nuclear power plant so we can finally produce cheap energy and for us to lower our electricity rates,” the UniTeam said.

In a previous radio interview, Marcos underscored the serious need for the country to look into the use of nuclear power and that it should not be politicized.

“We really have to look at nuclear power. Let’s not politicize it. Once again, follow the science,” Marcos said.
