The Manila International Airport Authority on Friday inaugurated Taxiway Charlie, one of the facilities at the country’s premier airport, which was repaired and upgraded to ensure the efficient use of the runway and improve aircraft safety.

MIAA general manager Eddie Monreal said the upgrading of airside facilities at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport will make aircraft movement from the runway to the tarmac faster, and can accommodate more arrivals and departures per day.

Monreal said the improvement can also increase the maximum number of aircraft movements in the country’s primary gateway.

“As the man gateway to the country, the NAIA has been catering to millions of passengers locally and internationally,” he said.

The MIAA stated that prior to the upgrading of airside facilities, aircraft traffic on-ground affected landing and take-off time as many aircraft line up to take-off and land.

With improved taxiways, aircraft can safely exit the runway and open it up for the next arrival and departure flights safely.

The government spent P1.1 billion for the project, which include civil and electrical works. Joel E. Zurbano
