Ex-VP De Castro impressed with Lacson’s leadership, track record

Former Vice President Noli De Castro said the leadership skills and track record of presidential aspirant Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson clearly shone during a recent television interview with candidates for the highest position in the country.

De Castro said Lacson was frank and to the point in answering questions on governance and national policies.

“Many people who I talked to who watched the interview were impressed with the answers of Senator Ping. He really knows his job,” he said.

De Castro was previously part of the senatorial slate of Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso but decided to withdraw his candidacy.

Political analyst Malou Tiquia said Lacson “came out really strong” during the interview.

“Why? [Because] he had the track record to speak of,” Tiquia said in a Twitter post.

Lacson, for his part, said he intends to transform the Philippines from being a poster country of global disasters into a model nation when it comes to exerting efforts in the fight versus climate change.

Lacson said this is going to be part of his environmental agenda, which would be backed by science-based and data-driven solutions, even if the Philippines is not among the biggest contributors to global warming.

“The Philippines is a small country to put a dent in what we call the problem of climate change. But then we are still part of an international community of nations and we can do our share,” he said.

To achieve this ambitious goal, Lacson said he aims to make a transition into renewable and alternative sources of energy to help cut global greenhouse gas emissions by 1.5-degrees Celsius, relative to the 2015 Paris Agreement, which the Philippines signed along with 191 other nations.
