House plenary debates for 2018 budget begin

The plenary debates in the House of Representatives for the 2018 national budget have started.

House leaders have scheduled daily sessions in the morning and afternoon this week so that the budget will be promptly passed.

House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez sees no reason to prolong the budget approval since these allocations have passed the scrutiny of lawmakers in the committee level.

The Duterte administration's budget for next year amounts to P 3.767 trillion.

The education sector will get the biggest share at P 691 billion.

The Department of Public Works and Highways will get P 643 billion.
