Two SC justice positions still vacant

Two vacancies for the post of Associate Justice remain at the Supreme Court (SC).

President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to select his choice for the next magistrates of the high tribunal.

The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) has submitted shortlists to Malacañang twice.

The first time it sent a shortlist to the Office of Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea was on December 2, 2016.

This was in view of SC Associate Justice Jose Perez’s retirement on December 14, 2016.

The second shortlist was submitted on December 12, 2016.

This was in time for the retirement of SC Associate Justice Arturo Brion last December 29, 2016.

Duterte has 90 days to fill up the two vacant positions in the Supreme Court.
