Angeles City police chief sacked over abductions of Koreans

Philippine National Police (PNP) Region 3 Police Director Chief Supt. Aaron Aquino has sacked Angeles City’s chief of police.

This comes, following the reported abduction of South Koreans in the city, including businessman Jee Ick Joo.

Relieved was Senior Superintendent Sidney Villaflor.

He has been temporarily moved to the PNP Regional Personnel and Holding Unit.

Senior Supt. Jose Hidalgo Jr. will replace Villaflor on Wednesday.

Aquino cited command responsibility as reason for the move against the Angeles police chief.

Seven police officers were earlier sacked in connection with their alleged extortion, abduction and mauling of three South Koreans who were brought to a police station from their homes in Apo Street, Friendship Plaza on December 30, 2016.

Jee was kidnapped on October 18, 2016 and was reportedly strangled to death in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
