Two Abu Sayyaf hostages released

Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process Jesus Dureza has presented in a press briefing in Davao City two hostages who were freed by the Abu Sayyaf (ASG) in Jolo, Sulu.

The first freed hostage is a Korean identified as Park Chul Hong, the captain of cargo vessel MV Dong Bang Giant.

The second hostage is Filipino crewmember Glen Lumundao.

The two were abducted on October 20, 2015 as their boat was sailing in the waters off Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) helped secure the release of the two men.

Dureza claims, no ransom was paid to the bandits in exchange for the  release of the victims.

“They planned to escape but they discovered that the community was very supportive (of the Abu Sayyaf),” Dureza notes.
