Hontiveros: Only 4 to 5 senators’ nod needed to kill death penalty bill

Senator Risa Hontiveros says, the concurrence of just four to five more senators are needed to kill the measure in the Senate that seeks the reintatement of death penalty in the country.

Hontiveros says, 10 senators have already stated their opposition to the revival of the capital punishment.

Senate President Aquilino Pimentel says, the chamber may begin tackling the bill on death penalty during the first quarter of next year.

He said, “it will be debated in the plenary. Di na kaya ngayon. Baka January (It can’t be done now, maybe in January).”

Senate Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III says, the proposal will entail very long debates.

He says, the discussions on the matter may begin in February or March, 2017.
