PNP arrests Mayor in Cotabato

Police have arrested Libungan, Cotabato Mayor Christopher Cuan.

This was in an anti-drug raid conducted at about 2 am on Saturday in his house in Barangay Cabaruyan, Libungan town and three other properties.

The operation conducted by operatives of the PNP Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (RAIDSOTG) and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) did not yield any illegal drugs.

But it resulted in the confiscation of an arsenal of high-powered firearms, handguns and ammunitions.

Authorities used 20 search warrants as basis for the raid.

Cuan is now in the custody of the North Cotabato Provincial Police Office.

He faces criminal complaints for alleged violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act and the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.

Cuan is on his first term as mayor.
