Signal # 3 up over 3 provinces as storm ‘Karen’ nears Catanduanes

Tropical storm ‘Karen’ picks up speed as it approaches Catanduanes and moves toward Aurora-Quezon area.

Its current location as of Saturday noon is 95 kilometers north northeast of Virac, Catanduanes.

Karen is packing maximum sustained winds of up to 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 180 kph.

It is moving  west northwest at 17 kph and is expected to make landfall in Quezon-Aurora on Sunday.

Signal number 3 is up over Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Northern Quezon including Polillo Island and Aurora.

Signal number 2 is up over the rest of Quezon, Camarines Sur, Albay, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Quirino, Zambales, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Nueva Vizcaya, La Union and Benguet.

Signal number 1 is up over Sorsogon, Masbate including Ticao and Burias Islands, Isabela, Romblon, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, Batangas, Laguna, Cavite, Metro Manila, Pampanga, Bataan and Ifugao.

PAGASA says, the effects of Karen will be felt on Saturday night.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau has spotted a tropical depression outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Its current position is 1,840 kilometers east of Mindanao.

It will be called ‘Lawin’ once it enters PAR on Monday.
