House holds third hearing on NBP drug trade

The House Committee on Justice conducts its third investigation into the alleged proliferation of drug trade inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre intends to present 6 witnesses.

They include Jonel Sanchez, Engelberto Durano, Nonilo Arile, Gerry Valeroso, Ferdinand Marcelino and Rafael Ragos.

Committee Chairman Reynaldo Umali says, aside from Thursday’s inquiry, two more hearings may be held on the matter.

NBP convict Jaybee Sebastian has been summoned to attend the probe on Monday.

Aguirre says, there is no certainty yet on whether or not Sebastian will testify and what will he say.

Previous witnesses claimed that Sebastian raised funds for Senator Leila De Lima’s campaign by supposedly ordering gangs inside the prison complex to increase the volume of their drug deals.
