Batanes suffers from lack of power, water & phone lines

Representative of the Regional Disaster Management Agency are set to fly on board a C-130 plane to Itbayat, Batanes on Saturday to check the damage brought by typhoon Ferdie.

Some residents in the capital town of Basco say, they have yet to establish communications with people of Itbayat and until now, they do not know the extent of damage that the island of Itbayat suffered.

Last Thursday, Batanes was placed under state of calamity.

Power and water supplies as well as communication lines in Basco, Itbayat and Mahatao are down.

Typhoon ‘Ferdie’ totally destroyed about 50 houses and some government buildings in the province.

Signal number 4 was raised in Batanes during the height of the typhoon.
