FWD Life Insurance Corporation (FWD Insurance), part of pan-Asian FWD Group, has launched three corporate social responsibility initiatives designed to empower those in need.

In a statement, the firm said these projects aimed to help health care frontliners, farmers and informal workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as well as cancer patients.

“We are living in extraordinary times and at FWD, we’d like to step up for our brothers and sisters in need,” said Li Hao Zhuang, FWD Insurance President and Chief Executive Officer. “The spirit of bayanihan is alive amid the evolving COVID-19 situation and we are inspired to care and be of service by supporting our partner organizations and reaching out to communities in need.”

FWD also said in its statement that it launched in April its charity drive to aid health care frontline workers of St. Luke’s Medical Center Foundation (SLMFC).

Through this project that raised a total P1,000,000, every eligible FWD protection product bought in April generated a donation to the SLMCF to aid in its continuing need for personal protective equipment (PPEs).

“We sincerely thank FWD for their contribution that would greatly help our medical personnel in the fight against COVID-19. The funds generated will go a long way in safeguarding our health care workers who are in the frontlines in protecting our patients who are being treated for COVID-19,” said Olivia Yao, St. Luke's Medical Center’s Vice President for Resource Development Group.

Also last April 2020, FWD Insurance reached out to farmers and informal workers displaced by the Enhanced Community Quarantine.

FWD employees held a fundraising drive for farmers and informal workers, two of the most vulnerable sectors during the ECQ, to cushion the economic burden caused by the COVID-19 crisis.

The generated funds were used to purchase produce from farmers in Cordillera and provided to families of displaced informal workers in Metro Manila as relief packs, FWD said in its statement.

In collaboration with AC Infrastructure Holdings Corporation (AC Infra) and its partner charity, relief packs were also given to families residing along the FWD-Muntinlupa-Cavite Expressway (MCX).

In December 2019, FWD and AC Infra, fully-owned subsidiary of the Ayala Corporation (AC), announced their Expressway Sponsorship Program that unveiled the newly renamed FWD-MCX.

In February and March 2020, FWD Insurance also launched its charity drive for the benefit of the Philippine Cancer Society (PCS) and its cancer research and awareness programs.

For this cause, FWD Insurance raised a total donation of P1,214,000 from all eligible protection products sold during the program period.

Dr. Rachael Rosario, executive director of PCS, said: “It is an even greater challenge coping with cancer during the pandemic. Through FWD’s generosity, the Philippine Cancer Society will be able to give some of our underprivileged countrymen a fighting chance against cancer and support our other ongoing research and awareness programs too.

“Our heartfelt appreciation goes to FWD, as well as its advisors and customers, for their donation. “
