Shopee: More Filipinos turn to online platforms for entertainment needs during ECQ

With Filipinos spending most of their time at home during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) and with most shows being temporarily suspended on television due to increased social distancing efforts, online platforms such as Shopee have become a source of fun and positivity for many people. 

Shopee observes a greater demand for engagement and entertainment on the platform. In particular, in-app games such as Shopee Farm and Shopee Shake are highly popular among Filipinos in recent months, as they shop and play on their mobile phones. 

  • 70% more plays for Shopee Farm, a social and interactive in-app game where users earn special rewards for logging in regularly to water their plants virtually  
  • 4X more plays for the all-time favorite Shopee Shake as users log in regularly to earn Shopee coins and save more while they shop 
In addition, shoppers are increasingly tuning in to Shopee Live as their preferred source of entertainment, recording 30 million views in a single month. Shopee Live is also becoming popular among Filipinos across all ages, as users aged 18 to 50 tune in regularly to watch a wide variety of live streams in April.

Users can look out for greater entertainment and engagement as Shopee launches two new games, Shopee Claw and Shopee Poly, just in time for its upcoming Shopee 6.6 Super Flash Sale campaign. Shopee Claw was inspired by the arcade game where a claw is used to pick up prizes. Meanwhile, Shopee Poly features players rolling a dice to determine the steps they will take and if they will lose or earn points. Both games can let users earn points and redeem prizes. 

Shopee 6.6 Super Flash Sale will run from May 18 to June 6 where shoppers can enjoy daily flash deals as low as ₱6, free shipping, and up to 50% discounts. Users can also watch out for exclusive deals and discounts from household brands such as Wyeth, Unilever Beauty, Shigetsu, L’Oreal Paris, Maybelline, P&G Home, and Nestle.
