Begang crowned PVF champ

Begang National High School edged Tipo Tipo National High School in a closely contested finals that went the three-set distance in the Isabela de Basilan Leg of the PVF-Tanduay Athletics Girls U18 “Series in Ur Cities” Volleyball Tournament held at the Isabela City Gymnasium recently.

Begang National High School earned the right to play in the Mindanao Qualifier to vie for one of two slots allotted to Mindanao to qualify in the National Finals in Manila. The national champion will play in Singapore in a tournament and/or play with Singaporean High School teams.

A boodle fight was held for lunch, courtesy of the City Mayor, Madame Sitti Djalia Turabin Hataman.  

A courtesy call was also made by PVF Secretary General Gerard Cantada,  Managing Director Dr. Otie Camangian, and PVF Director for Basilan Dr. Arnel Hajan to Governor Jim Hataman Salliman.

“The PVF would like to thank the officials of the province of Basilan and the city of Isabela for their generosity and thoughtfulness. Our expectations were more than met — that Basilan is a safe haven with numerous pristine beaches, beautiful landmarks, friendly and lovely people,” said PVF president Edgardo ‘Tito Boy’ Cantada.

“The participants have left for home nurturing an experience they would not easily forget.  The majority of the teams, if not all, came from public schools.  There are no entry fees providing equal opportunities,” he added.
