In celebration of World Sight Day on Oct. 14, an ophthalmic optics company reminds the public to care for their eye health.

“Our sense of sight is essential to our day to day living. But with increased screen time during the lockdown, we have pushed our eyes to the limits which may have led us to experience eye strain and eye fatigue more often,” says Jinky Navo-Palteng, marketing manager of Essilor Philippines.

World Sight Day, celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October, aims to draw global attention to vision impairment and blindness.

“The celebration of World Sight Day reminds everyone to visit their eye doctor regularly and [maintain] good eye health habits.”

Celebrated annually on the second Thursday of October, World Sight Day aims to draw global attention to vision impairment and blindness. According to the World Health Organization, there are at least 1 billion people globally who have near or distance vision impairment “that could be prevented or has yet to be addressed”.

Vision impairment, WHO says, affects people of all ages, majority are over 50 years old.
