Eco-friendly alternative to dry cleaning

Unknown to many who bring their clothes to the dry cleaner, the process exposes their beloved garments to liquid solvents found to be harmful to people and the environment. Most commonly used chemical to gently clean fabrics is perchloroethylene or perc, also used in industrial degreasing, paint stripping, and metalworking.

Eco-friendly alternative to dry cleaning
Reviva managing director Charmaine Ang talks about wet cleaning technology.

Several studies reveal perc causes dizziness, drowsiness, headaches, loss of consciousness, limited memory loss, skin blistering, and visual and coordination issues. Prolonged exposure increases the risk of cancer.

Improper disposal of perc also poses environmental risks. While USA and Europe has seen the dangers of using the chemical, in the Philippines, most dry cleaners still use it.

For a much more sustainable and safer alternative, Reviva Luxury Garment Care brings to the Philippines the Wet Cleaning Technology invented by Kreussler Textile Care of Germany.

According to Reviva, wet cleaning cleans even the most sensitive dry-clean-only fabrics using water and biodegradable cleaning agent called Lanadol. Unlike laundry, wet cleaning uses special equipment that precisely controls the process.

Reviva processes all kinds of fabrics with different construction and trimmings such as haute couture, bespoke suits and tuxedos, baby garments, evening wear, bridal and ball gowns, wool, cashmere, leather, silk, and garments with linings, beadwork and, sequins.

“We are proud to make wet cleaning technology available to the Philippines and combine it with the Filipino’s renowned gentleness and care,” said Reviva managing director Charmaine Ang.

She added, “We believe that it’s not enough that your garment looks clean. In Reviva, we check everything to make sure you get a garment that is safe from harmful chemicals and feels better when worn.”

Some of the notable fashion designers that have been served by Reviva since its soft launch included Francis Libiran, Happy Andrada, Renee Salud, Hannah Kong, Ryan Uson-Ablaza, as well as RTW shops like Suit it up.

Reviva’s services are available in its shops at Venice Luxury Residences, McKinley; Aspire and Dream Tower, Eastwood; and The Podium, Ortigas. Customers can also book online to avail pick up and deliver services. Visit www.reviva.com.ph for more information.
