Filipino artists honored in Madrid

Dulaang Filipino’s rendition of Oedipus, a one-hour reduction of Sophocles’ Theban trilogy, in Filipino translations by Rolando Tinio and Onofre Pagsanjan, was awarded Best International Show by the International University of La Rioja during the gala night of IV Premios Escenamateur “Juan Mayorga” de las Artes Escénicas.

The entry bested nominees from Algeria, Colombia, France, Israel and Ukraine.

On behalf of the performers Consul and Cultural Section Head Mary Luck Hicarte and Vice Consul Ralf Roldan of the Philippine Embassy in Madrid, Spain received the honor.

Virgilio A. Castillo Jr., head of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s Office of Culture and Arts, recently received the laurel for the college’s resident theater company during a simple ceremony at the Embassy.

The Premios Escenamateur is organized by Spanish Amateur Theater Federation (Escenamateur), with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport and the SGAE Foundation.
