The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) has formulated an AI Tool Usage Policy to govern the responsible utilization of AI features. This policy safeguards the integrity of the college’s creative programs, personal records, and educational partnerships in light of the proliferation of AI tools in academic institutions.

In addition to harnessing the efficiency and insights offered by AI tools, the policy addresses concerns related to ethics, honesty, and safety, outlining security practices, ethical principles, and procedural guidelines for their use in education.

This comprehensive reference guide encompasses evaluations of AI tools, standards for their proper implementation, and protocols for students, faculty, non-teaching associates, and administrators. It ensures compliance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173), which aims to protect individual information and communication systems in the government and financial sector.

To enhance knowledge about AI’s appropriate use in higher education institutions (HEIs), the Benilde Center of Educational Technology (CET) organized a symposium, bringing together educators, administrators, researchers, policymakers, and technology experts from various state universities and colleges (SUCs). This event facilitated discussions on the extent of AI implementation, the development of contextualized strategies, and the formation of collaborative initiatives.

Participating HEIs included Assumption College San Lorenzo, Colegio de San Juan de Letran – Manila, De La Salle University (DLSU) Manila, DLSU-Dasmariñas, DPR-Philippine Academy in Technology and Sciences, Lyceum of the Philippines University, National University – Laguna, Universidad de Manila, University of the Cordilleras, University of the Philippines Manila, University of Asia and the Pacific, and University of Santo Tomas.

To provide the community with a deeper understanding of the established measures, the Benilde CET introduced a comprehensive course, “AI for Associates’ Best Practices, Guidelines, and Compliance.” This course explores the benefits and challenges of AI tools in academia, emphasizes system selection and integration into the curriculum, and addresses aspects such as accountability, intellectual property, human rights, justice, equity, and non-discrimination.

The course includes various modules, online discussions, readings, assignments, supplementary resources, and educational videos, all accessible through BigSky Benilde, the school’s integrated learning platform.
