Layeta Bucoy, a Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature Hall of Famer and multi-awarded playwright, explores how the dynamics of power affect society in crisis in her latest online production entitled Doc Anna…Let’s Kill This Lab!

A scene from ‘Doc Anna…Let’s Kill This Lab!’

Directed by Gawad Buhay Philstage Awardee and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde Theater Arts Program Chairperson Tuxqs Rutaquio, the 1 hour and 45-minute pre-recorded play took inspiration from a study on the use of nanotechnology to address water contamination.

It follows the citizens of a small town, which is currently plagued by severe cases of cancer amid the election period.

With the rising number of deaths, mayoral candidates Tito and Vicky were challenged to put their political dispute on hold as the town seeks the help of local scientist Doc Anna to find the cause and unravel a cure for the said disease.

Driven by a socially, politically, and culturally relevant narrative, the production reveals the different motives that drive human behavior and explores the diverse illnesses that afflict the Filipino nation – cancer as a deadly disease, the abuse of power, and the effects of politics to a society in crisis.
