If there’s one room in the house that poses the most danger, many would agree it’s the kitchen. Sharp tools, fire and heat from the stove, and slippery surfaces—it’s the unwanted of hazards in the cookery.

Careless action and unsupervised activity in the kitchen could easily land us or our loved one to the emergency room. It is of utmost importance that homemakers watch out for hazards of cooking—from handling sharp knives, working with hot surfaces to making sure the food is properly cooked.

With simple precaution anyone can make the home a safer place one room at a time, and the kitchen a place for preparing sumptuous meals and not a spot to get an injury. So take off your apron and read on to learn how to keep the kitchen safe.

Do not rush

Clean up spills immediately to avoid accidents

Unless you are a pro, you should not run around the kitchen like you are joining a speed cooking contest. And unless you are being led or commanded by Chef Gordon Ramsay, you should work safely and reasonably slowly in the kitchen.

When you lift a cover off a boiling pot, pull the cover toward you so you do not burn your hand. Steam from boiling liquid can burn easily, so be careful around simmering or boiling food.

Read the label

Read the label to know which food items
should be refrigerated

Before you put away groceries you bought, make sure to read the label of each food item. One way to avoid botulism, a fatal paralytic illness caused by a toxin produced by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum, is to refrigerate all food items labeled “Keep Refrigerated.”

Reading labels also helps figuring out which item will spoil sooner and how to properly prepare them to get the most flavor and nutrients.

Handle knives properly

Before using knives, you should keep the blades sharp and clean to prevent them from slipping and cutting yourself. Always cut away from your body and always use a cutting board. Wash the knives with warm soapy water but make sure you do not leave them lying around the sink because they may not be seen immediately and might cause accidents.

Also, keep your knives sharp because the truth is, dull knives are much more dangerous than sharp ones. Blunt blade makes it harder for the knife to use and easier to slip.

Promptly clean up spills

Choosing authentic LPG could mean
the safety of your home and family

Immediately clean up spills of water, grease, and food on the floor, stove, or countertop to avoid slipping and falling. It also keeps stubborn stains from permanently messing up your cooking area.

Use authentic LPG tanks

Do not risk the lives of your family with illegitimate LPG tanks that could result in disaster. Instead, purchase a Solane LPG tank that now carries a safety cap and seal for their A/S valves.

Other than sealing the tank, it also provides a means of checking the authenticity of the tank. A tab on the Solane safety cap and seal has a serial number printed on it. This serial number can be checked online for authenticity. With this serial number tab you can be 100 percent sure that your Solane LPG tank is filled properly and legally by Solane.
