The Taguig City government recorded 50 new cases of persons infected with coronavirus disease, bringing to 1,628 the total number of confirmed cases.

The local government also reported 23 deaths and 610 recoveries as of Tuesday.

The new cases came from areas of Calzada-Tipas, Ligid-Tipas, Lower Bicutan, Napindan, Palingon-Tipas, Ususan, Central Bicutan, Fort Bonifacio, Maharlika, North Daang Hari, North Signal, Pinagsama, South Daang Hari, South Signal, Upper Bicutan, and Western Bicutan.

Of the number of cases, 496 came from the areas now placed under localized quarantine, including a construction site in Bonifacio Global City and Purok 5 and 6 in Barangay Lower Bicutan.

ßThe city government will build additional quarantine facilities for COVID-19 patients and suspected cases in Bonifacio Global City and in Lakeshore.

At present, Taguig already has four isolation facilities, which include a 40-bed facility in Lakeshore that offers hygiene kits, towels, kits with masks and thermometers, bedside table, chair, and cabinets for each cubicle.

Meanwhile, National Policy Against COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. praised the Taguig City government's response to the spread of the virus among hundreds of workers at the construction site.

He said the city might lose P16.7 billion in two weeks if the city was locked down due to the spread of the virus.

Galvez commended Mayor Cayetano for imposing the lockdown only at the site and not over the whole city considering its economic impact.

“Ang nakita natin dito ‘yung balance between economy and health e. Pinakita nga ni Mayor Lino how we can save lives, at the same time, save the economy,” Galvez said.
