The Quezon City government has partnered with foodpanda, food delivery app, to help and support hundreds of tricycle drivers as well as their families who have lost their livelihood during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

Mayor Joy Belmonte and Daniel Marogy, foodpanda Philippines’ managing director, yesterday signed an agreement to launch pandaTODA-QC.

Under the program, foodpanda shall recruit and train the city’s tricycle drivers to become partner riders, and that they would be provided with uniforms and thermo bags free of charge.

In addition, these drivers would be required to be active on the platform for three months, after which, they could opt to continue or forego the engagement with foodpanda.

“We are fortunate for this partnership with foodpanda as this will help alleviate the situation of our tricycle drivers whose livelihoods were affected by the pandemic. They will have sustainable income because there is a growing demand for food delivery services from people at home,” Belmonte said.
