Private firms, individuals aid Manila vs. COVID-19

The City Government of Manila has received several packages to help aid in the operations in stopping the spread of the deadly coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a message on Thursday, Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso said the City of Manila expresses its gratitude to the following entities and personalities for their help in fighting the COVID-19 outbreak: . Philippine Red Cross Manila Chapter, 25,000 face masks, medical supplies, alcohol, biscuits, ready to eat supplemental foods for hospital/healthcare workers;  Ongpin Foundation-3 units of UV Care Room Sterilizer, 100 pieces of virus blockers; VP Leni Robredo and Department of Transportation, for providing alternative transportation for the city’s healthcare workers; Brgy. Chairman Winnie Provido-Cruz, 5,000 bottles of drinking water, 5. Uratex, 100 roll mats; MMDA General Manager Jojo Garcia, 16,000 surgical masks; Mr. Barton Sy, Newton Gan from Tat Sing Group, ten 20-L jars of 100% Isopropyl Alcohol, 2 units of Mist Cannon Spray Machines; 1919 Grand Café, 20 trays plus nine pails of bread; San Augustine Bus, for providing buses for transportation of frontliners of city district hospitals; Farinas Bus, for providing two buses for transportation of frontliners of city district hospitals;  NutriAsia, 40 cases of dalandan juice and Mr. Jorge Go, for giving six boxes of Family Rubbing alcohol.

Meanwhile, The Manila City Government social workers have rescued more than 30 homeless people on Thursday amid the ongoing implementation of the Luzon-wide community quarantine due to the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Among those rescued was a deaf street dweller, who at first resisted boarding the rescue vehicle, but was later on pacified.

Social workers said he may have gone wild because he cannot express himself properly.

Another homeless stroke patient, unable to walk and speak, was rescued by the local government.

Other street dwellers were the ones taking care of the said person, according to the rescuers.

Several rescued street people were ambulant vendors whose livelihoods have been hit by the community quarantine.

The street dwellers were all brought to Delpan Sports Complex where they were provided with food and other medical needs.

On Wednesday night, 40 other homeless people were rescued in the city.

President Rodrigo Duterte has placed Luzon under an enhanced community quarantine.

The government advised the public to stay at home. However, many street dwellers cannot afford to do such a measure.
