As the Fire Prevention Month comes to an end, Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna reiterated her gratitude to fire volunteers for constantly helping government firefighters during fire incidents in the city.

Lacuna acknowledged that for decades, fire volunteers have always been there to offer their precious time, strength and effort to protect lives and give hope to fire victims, at times even at the risk of their own safety.

“In every fire, every emergency, and every moment of need, they have shown the spirit of communal unity,” Lacuna said in Tagalog at the at the 30th anniversary of the Santa Cruz Volunteer Fire Rescue and Disaster Response Group

“May you continue to be successful and serve as guiding light to future generations of fire volunteers that our communities can depend on,” she added, noting that their united efforts strengthened communities that inspire many Manileños.

Manila 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua was also present in the event to express his support, echoing Lacuna’s message to the firefighters. He said the City of Government of Manila remains forever grateful to their hard work.

“I pray that more people join your ranks, not only in Manila, but in nearby cities and provinces in our nation, which will require your services the moment a fire breaks out,” Lacuna said.

The mayor also called on Manilans to make every month a ‘Fire Prevention Month,’ not just in March, citing the number of fire incidents that had been hitting the city recently and to always prioritize saving lives rather than properties.
