The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has agreed to the proposal of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) to use MMDA-installed cameras to record violations of erring motorists in the National Capital Region (NCR).

LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Vigor Mendoza II said the recorded videos will be used to issue show-cause order against any erring motorists in a bid to discipline them, as part of the road safety measures in line with the instruction of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista.

According to Mendoza, the cameras installed by the MMDA are being used to monitor traffic situations, especially in major thoroughfares in Metro Manila. Hence, they might as well use them to run after erring motorists who would openly defy traffic safety rules.

Initially, the LTO will be focusing on the violators of the exclusive busway along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue.

Based on the agreement, the MMDA will forward the captured videos of violations, including details on the date and time of the violation, and the license plate of the vehicle involved in any traffic violation. These captured videos will be transmitted to the LTO office and will be used as the basis of the show-cause order.

He earlier issued an instruction to coordinate with the MMDA on the possible utilization of its cameras. A meeting was then set between LTO officials and MMDA officials.

During the meeting, Mendoza said the MMDA officials agreed to the proposal of the LTO.

The MMDA would forward the captured videos of violations, including details on the date and the time of the violation, and the license plate of the vehicle involved in any traffic violation.

He thanked the MMDA for continuous cooperation and coordination in order to instill discipline among motorists in Metro Manila.
