The Taguig City government has named the latest centenarian awardees as part of its program for senior citizens in the city.

Mayor Laarni Cayetano and other local officials personally handed over the P100,000 as centenarian birthday gifts to 102-year-old Romeo Cruz from Barangay Hagonoy and 100-year-old Eufemia Fabillar from Barangay Pembo.

Cayetano said each centenarian like Inang Femia and Lolo Romeo receives a P100,000 cash gift when they turn 100 years old and will continue to receive the amount every year while they live. She added that recognition is one of the programs she initiated for senior citizens.

“I pray that your life will be longer and happier so that we can make you feel that we truly love and care for both of you,” she added.

Under the program, senior citizens of the city also receive cash gifts ranging from P3,000 to P10,000 depending on their age bracket: P3,000 for those 60-69 years old, P4,000 for those 70-79 years old, P5,000 to those 80-89 years old, and P10,000 to those 90-99 years old.

The local government also offers free medicine to elderlies with diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and asthma; and provides those in need of nursing services, wheelchairs, canes, and hearing aids.

In October, Taguig announced the inclusion of a 101-year-old woman in the list of centenarian awardees in EMBO villages formerly under the jurisdiction of Makati City.

Segundina Dela Cruz Laurente of Barangay Cembo received her birthday cash gift of P100,000 as part of the local government’s service extended to the villages now under the control of Taguig.

Lola Segundina was the second centenarian awardee in EMBO. The first was 100-year-old Maura Agripa, a resident of Barangay Post Proper Southside.

EMBO (enlisted men’s barrio) refers to a collective term for barangays administered in a de facto state by the city government of Makati but de jure of the city government of Taguig after the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Taguig denying any further legal remedies to Makati.
